The study titled "Pressure-Induced Dynamic Tuning of Interlayer Coupling in Twisted WSe2/WSe2 Homobilayers" delves into the intriguing realm of moiré superlattices formed in twisted van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures or homostructures. In this research, the authors introduce an innovative dynamic tuning method employing a diamond anvil cell (DAC) to manipulate the interlayer coupling in twisted WSe2/WSe2 homobilayers. The experimental results demonstrate the remarkable efficacy of this approach in precisely controlling the interlayer coupling. Moreover, the study unveils a heightened sensitivity of the interlayer breathing modes and the rapid modulation of indirect excitons in these twisted homobilayers under the influence of pressure. One of the striking findings of this investigation is the emergence of hybridized excitons due to the introduction of a moiré superlattice in WSe2 bilayers. This leads to distinct pressure-evolution behaviors in excitons when compared to their counterparts in natural WSe2 bilayers. This discovery fundamentally enriches our understanding of moiré physics and its profound impact on the electronic properties of two-dimensional materials.

The significance of this work extends beyond fundamental research. The dynamic tuning method presented here offers a potent means of tailoring the properties of moiré superlattices, holding great promise for the development of advanced electronic and optoelectronic devices. Furthermore, the study highlights the potential of hydrostatic pressure as an exceptional strategy for modulating the optical and phonon properties of moiré superlattices, paving the way for exciting advancements in materials science and technology.
